Engines Group (The Alert Program)

This group is based in the “Alert Program: How Does your Engine Run?” created by Mary Sue Williams and Sherry Shellenberg. The Alert Program teaches children to be able to monitor their internal state of arousal and activity level and teaches them a number of tools, or “Engine Changers” in order to support appropriate state changes throughout their day. There are between 4-6 children per group, and the group is run by 2 occupational therapists. 3 times within the group schedule a parent training is held during group time in order to train parents in the Engines concepts and support them to help their children. Children should be 6 years of age or older and should have some previous sensory integrative therapy, although intakes may be scheduled to see if children who have not had previous treatment would be an appropriate match. Classes are held in Spring, Summer and Fall semesters and are 50-minutes in length for 12 weeks.
